Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated on Monday that India has successfully maintained the momentum of its economic growth despite significant global geopolitical turmoil, attributing this success to the nation’s expanding diplomatic reach and strategic partnerships.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that Shah made these remarks in Panaji while addressing a ceremony where the Goa Police were presented with the President’s Colour. He highlighted that India’s engagement with other nations and the establishment of strategic partnerships have been crucial in navigating the uncertainties that have affected global economic growth over the past few years.
The Union Minister pointed to the Russia-Ukraine war and the recent conflicts involving the US, Iran, and Gulf countries as examples of the turbulent diplomatic landscape. Despite these challenges, he noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s extensive foreign travels, involving visits to 22 countries in the past year, and the reciprocal visits from around 15 heads of state to India, underscore the nation’s increasing diplomatic influence.
Shah elaborated on India’s economic achievements, stating that the country had concluded nine free trade agreements (FTAs) by 2026 and had proposed FTAs with 38 other countries. He specifically mentioned ongoing efforts to secure FTAs with the UAE, Australia, the UK, Oman, New Zealand, and the European Union, aimed at boosting trade relations. These concerted efforts, he asserted, contributed to India recording a robust Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth rate of 7.8 per cent in the first quarter of the financial year 2026-27.
Beyond trade, India has actively shared its advancements in various sectors globally, including Digital Public Infrastructure, and has provided assistance to several nations in disaster relief and capacity building. Shah emphasized that Prime Minister Modi’s consistent efforts and global outreach have solidified India’s standing on the world stage, earning the nation respect and recognition.
He also reiterated Prime Minister Modi’s vision of transforming India into a fully developed nation by 2047, the 100th anniversary of its independence. Shah expressed confidence that this vision, initially met with debate, has now galvanized 140 crore Indians, fostering a collective belief in the nation’s potential to be a global leader in all fields by that milestone.
Turning his attention to the Goa Police, Shah expressed pride in the force being honored with the President’s Colour, acknowledging their eight decades of service. He stated that the award recognizes the police force’s glorious history, professional excellence, courage, discipline, and dedication. He specifically commended the Goa Police for successfully fulfilling their responsibilities since the state’s formation in 1987, including ensuring safe cities, secure communities, and protected maritime borders, thereby making a significant contribution to national security.
Shah underscored that internal security and border protection are fundamental prerequisites for a developed nation. He noted Goa’s exemplary performance in safeguarding its internal security and coastline, highlighting the police’s effectiveness in protecting tourists and contributing to the state’s economic prosperity.
Addressing the growing threat of cyber fraud in the expanding digital economy, Shah urged vigilance. He mentioned that Prime Minister Modi has initiated direct dialogues with states to combat this escalating issue, and pointed to the national cybercrime helpline number, 1930, as a crucial shield against cyber fraud.
