Srinagar, September 10 – Sujit Kumar, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for Kashmir Zone, undertook an extensive review of the security landscape and counter-terrorism strategies across the districts of Kulgam and Shopian in South Kashmir on Monday. The visit aimed to assess the effectiveness of the counter-terrorism grid, crime mitigation efforts, and the overall law and order situation in these strategically important regions.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the IGP was accompanied by Deputy Inspector General of Police, South Kashmir Range, Javed Iqbal Mattoo, during his visit to the twin districts. The core of the visit involved IGP Kumar chairing comprehensive security and crime review meetings in both Kulgam and Shopian. These meetings were attended by the respective Senior Superintendents of Police (SSsP) along with other senior and jurisdictional gazetted police officers.
During the briefings, the SSsP of Kulgam and Shopian provided detailed presentations that illuminated the prevailing security dynamics. Their reports covered the current status of anti-militant operations, the robustness of the counter-insurgency grids, implemented crime prevention strategies, and the measures being taken to maintain public order. These sessions served as a crucial platform for assessing ground realities and identifying areas for enhanced focus.
In his directives, IGP Kumar underscored the critical importance of maintaining a strong and proactive intelligence gathering mechanism. He emphasized the necessity for seamless coordination among various security agencies and stressed the need for swift and decisive actions to effectively neutralize any emerging security challenges. The IGP explicitly instructed the field formations to consistently exert pressure on militant ecosystems and to adopt a stance of zero tolerance towards any elements attempting to disrupt the peace and public order in the region.
Further extending his engagement, IGP Kumar also made a visit to the rural Sub-Division of D.H. Pora in the Kulgam district. Here, he conducted an interactive session with local jurisdictional supervisory officers, station house officers, and personnel from the Special Operations Group. This segment of the visit was designed to foster direct communication, understand the challenges faced by personnel at the local level, and reinforce operational readiness and morale.
