Four pilgrims from Punjab and Haryana who lost their way in the Churdhar forests in Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla district have been safely rescued, police officials confirmed. The group had ventured into the forests while returning from Churdhar Peak.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the distress call was received on Sunday night, indicating that a group of devotees returning from the pilgrimage site had strayed from the intended path and were disoriented. Swift action by the police led to a coordinated search and rescue operation.
Search and Rescue Operation
A dedicated police team was immediately deployed to scour the challenging forest terrain. After several hours of intensive searching in difficult conditions, the team successfully located and rescued two men, identified as Rahul, aged 22, and Sanket, aged 21, both hailing from Mohali in Punjab. The rescue of these individuals took place near the Patal Khad area around midnight.
Following the initial success, further information emerged indicating that a couple had also become lost in the same forested region. The search operation was consequently extended and intensified. The police team persevered through the night, eventually tracing and rescuing the couple. The rescued couple were identified as Rahul, aged 26, and his wife Madhu, aged 24, residents of Karnal, Haryana.

The Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Shimla, Gaurav Singh, confirmed the successful completion of the rescue mission. He stated that all four devotees were found unharmed and were subsequently moved to a secure location. The SSP commended the police team for their perseverance and dedication, highlighting that the operation continued throughout the night despite the complexities posed by the rugged landscape and darkness. Their efforts were instrumental in ensuring the safe return of all missing persons.
