Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested nine individuals accused of drug peddling in separate operations conducted across various districts of Kashmir, recovering significant quantities of contraband substances.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that operations were carried out in Anantnag, Sopore, Shopian, Pulwama, and Kulgam, leading to the apprehension of the alleged peddlers and the seizure of drugs, including charas, charas-like substances, and ganja-like contraband.
In Anantnag district, police personnel from Police Station Anantnag intercepted two individuals at a checkpoint near Dugga Petrol Pump, Naibasti Khanabal. A search of the individuals yielded 10.31 grams of charas. The apprehended individuals have been identified as Adil Ahmad Shah, son of Bashir Ahmad Shah, and Adil Ahmad Wani, son of Mohd Iqbal Wani, both residents of Anantnag.
During a separate naka checking operation at Malgonipora in Sopore, a suspicious person was intercepted by the police. A subsequent search led to the recovery of contraband substances, which were seized according to legal procedures. The accused has been identified as Zakir Rashid Lone, son of Abdul Rashid Lone, a resident of Wadoora, Sopore.
In Shopian district, a police team from Police Post Keegam intercepted a suspect carrying a nylon bag at Audoora Rampathri. The search revealed 2.472 kilograms of crushed cannabis-like substance. The individual apprehended has been identified as Ab Ahad Mochi, son of Gh Mohd Mochi, from Audoora Rampthri.
Police in Pulwama district reported the apprehension of three individuals at the Old Bus Stand, Pulwama, during a routine checkpoint. They were found carrying polythene packets containing contraband. A total of 286 grams of charas powder and 101.5 grams of charas-like substance were recovered. The accused have been identified as Abrar Ahmad Yatoo, son of Gh Nabi Yatoo; Owais Ahmad Baba, son of Feroz Ahmad Baba; and Mudasir Ahmad Dar, son of Gh Nabi Dar, all residents of Pulwama.
In another instance in Pulwama, police personnel from Police Post Newa apprehended Arshid Ahmad Ganaie, son of Bashir Ahmad Ganaie, a resident of Chandgam, Pulwama, while he was driving a Tata Ace Gold Load Carrier bearing registration number JK13K-3132. A search led to the recovery of 22 grams of charas. The vehicle was also seized in accordance with legal provisions.
Further, in Kulgam district, a police party from Police Station Kulgam intercepted a suspect at Amnoo during a naka checking. Identified as Ashfaq Ahmad Wani, son of Bilal Ahmad Wani, a resident of Mirhama, Kulgam, the individual was found in possession of 1.450 kilograms of ganja-like contraband substance concealed in a bag. An amount of Rs 3,000, believed to be proceeds from narcotics trade, was also recovered. The accused has been taken into custody at the police station.
Cases have been registered in respective police stations under relevant sections of the law, and investigations are underway to ascertain the full extent of the drug trafficking network and to initiate further legal actions.
