Srinagar, Sep 20: Tariq Hameed Karra, president of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) and a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), stated on Sunday that the Congress party will continue to voice the genuine concerns of the public in the Assembly, even while in alliance with the National Conference (NC).
Information was available with The Chenab Times that Karra made these remarks to reporters in Srinagar following a meeting of Congress legislators in anticipation of the upcoming Assembly session. He emphasized that the alliance with the NC does not preclude the Congress from highlighting public issues and ensuring they are addressed promptly.
Karra articulated that the fundamental purpose of the Assembly is to facilitate the raising of questions and to ensure that issues affecting the populace are resolved efficiently. He added that this process is irrespective of whether the issues are brought forth by members of the ruling party or the opposition.
The meeting of the Congress legislature party was convened to strategize and discuss the agenda for the forthcoming Assembly session, Karra informed reporters. The discussions focused on how to effectively represent the interests of the people during legislative proceedings.
When questioned about recent divergences between the Congress and the NC on matters such as the ‘Vande Mataram’ slogan and the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), Karra urged for the party’s stance to be understood within the broader context of its alliance. He suggested that viewing these differences in isolation could lead to a narrow interpretation.
Karra explained that the Congress has entered the alliance based on principled grounds, with a consideration for the larger political landscape in the region. He reiterated that the party’s commitment to its alliance does not signify a compromise on its responsibility to articulate and advocate for the legitimate demands and concerns of the public.
He further clarified that participation in an alliance does not imply an abandonment of the duty to raise issues that are of importance to the people or a cessation of dialogue regarding their valid aspirations. Karra underscored that there is no inherent contradiction or connection that would prevent the Congress from fulfilling its role as a voice for the electorate, irrespective of its political partnerships.
