Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir: The Inspector General of Police (IGP) for Kashmir Zone, Sujit Kumar, has ordered a comprehensive review and restructuring of the security grid and traffic management systems across Srinagar. The directive came during a high-level security review and traffic management meeting held at the Police Control Room (PCR) Kashmir, which brought together key police and paramilitary officials.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, the meeting was attended by a significant number of senior officers, including the DIG Traffic Jammu, DIG CKR Srinagar, DIG Traffic Kashmir, DIGs from CRPF North and South Srinagar, DIG CRPF Ops Srinagar, SSP PCR Kashmir, SSP Traffic City Srinagar, SSP Srinagar, SO to IGP Kashmir, SSP CID SB (K), SSP CID CI (K), SP Cargo Srinagar, and all zonal Superintendents of Police (SsP) of Srinagar City. These officials provided briefings on the current security situation within their jurisdictions and offered suggestions aimed at enhancing both security arrangements and traffic flow.
During the extensive deliberations, the existing security framework for Srinagar city and the deployment of personnel were subjected to a thorough examination. A key focus of the review was the strategic realignment of naka (checkpost) points to bolster security coverage and simultaneously alleviate traffic congestion. The objective is to ensure the unimpeded movement of vehicular traffic while maintaining a robust security posture throughout the city.
IGP Kashmir underscored the critical need for the effective implementation of security measures across various levels, encompassing intra-zone, inter-zone, inter-district, and peripheral areas. He specifically instructed that check posts situated at the entry and exit points of Srinagar city be reinforced. Emphasis was placed on fostering seamless coordination and the real-time sharing of information among the Traffic Police, District Police, and all naka points. This integrated approach is intended to facilitate more effective monitoring of the situation and enable a swifter response to any emerging security concerns.
The IGP also highlighted the imperative of leveraging technological advancements to enhance traffic regulation, surveillance capabilities, coordination efforts, and information dissemination. The strategic adoption of technology is seen as crucial for making both traffic management and overall security arrangements more efficient and responsive to the dynamic urban environment.
