Professor G.S.N. Raju, a distinguished figure in electronics and communication engineering, has been conferred with the prestigious National IETE Lifetime Achievement Award. The award recognizes his extensive and impactful contributions to teaching, research, and leadership within the engineering fraternity.
The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) presented the award, considered one of the highest accolades in the field, acknowledging Professor Raju’s decades of dedication. This recognition highlights his significant role in shaping the careers of numerous students and advancing the discipline through his research endeavors.
Professor Raju, currently serving as the CEO of Srinivasa Institute of Engineering and Technology, has had a prolific career marked by numerous academic and administrative roles. He is a former Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University and former Chancellor of Centurion University of Technology and Management in Andhra Pradesh. Throughout his career, he has guided over 60 researchers and authored more than 530 papers published in national and international journals. His academic journey began with B.E. and M.E. degrees from Andhra University and a Ph.D. from IIT Kharagpur.
His contributions extend beyond academia to leadership positions within professional bodies. Professor Raju has held positions such as Head of the Department and Dean at Andhra University’s College of Engineering. He has also served as Chairman of the Society of Electromagnetic Compatibility Engineers in Visakhapatnam and as Chief Editor of the National Journal of Electromagnetic Compatibility. His expertise spans areas including antennas, wave propagation, radar communications, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC).
The National IETE Lifetime Achievement Award is not the sole recognition of Professor Raju’s eminence. His illustrious career has been adorned with numerous accolades, including the ‘State Best Teacher Award’ in 1999, the ‘Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Award’ for Best Academician in 2007, and the ‘National EMC Engineer of the Year Award’ in 2008. He has also been recognized with awards from the Government of India and a ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ in 2015 from Vietnam National University.
The award ceremony took place in Kolkata, where the honor was presented by Shashi Shekhar Vempati, former CEO of Prasar Bharati and former chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification. Professor Raju is the 24th recipient of this esteemed award, which has been presented to 23 individuals since its inception in 2011. The joint conferment of the award in 2026 with Lt Gen (Dr) AKS Chandele marks a unique instance in the award’s history.
Professor Raju’s commitment to education is further evidenced by his prolific authorship of textbooks on subjects like Antennas and Wave Propagation, Electromagnetic Field Theory, and Microwave Engineering, which are utilized in academic institutions across India. His dedication to fostering the next generation of engineers and researchers continues to be a driving force in his illustrious career.
