From Teacher to Trainer
Sanjay Negi has dedicated nearly 24 years to the field of education, primarily as a primary class teacher in the challenging terrains of Kinnaur. His career, which began in 2002, has seen him not only impart knowledge to young students but also engage in comprehensive training and mentorship for hundreds of teachers within the district. Negi, currently posted at Government Primary School in Khadura, Kinnaur, believes that continuous learning and sharing of experiences are vital for ensuring quality education.
Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that Negi’s transition into teacher training began in 2006, following specialized training in English from SCERT, Solan, and a certificate course in inclusive education from Bhopal. Since then, he has been instrumental in providing academic support and conducting training sessions for teachers at various levels—district, block, and cluster—through the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) in Kinnaur.
Focus on Quality and Inclusivity
A significant aspect of Negi’s professional contributions was his involvement in the NISHTHA programme. Within this initiative, he served as a member of the State Resource Group and later took on the role of a key resource person for Kinnaur. His efforts under NISHTHA led to the training of approximately 80 percent of Junior Basic Training (JBT) and Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT) educators in the district, covering various facets of quality education delivery.
Inclusive education has been a cornerstone of Negi’s work. As a trained special educator, he has also acquired additional expertise in basic sign language and inclusive sports. This background has enabled him to effectively guide teachers in supporting children with special needs, fostering an environment where all students can thrive. His dedication to inclusive practices ensures that educational strategies are adapted to meet diverse learning requirements.
Early Childhood Education and Community Engagement
In more recent years, Negi has focused on Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), serving as a Master Trainer. In this capacity, he has been responsible for building the capacity of teachers who work with pre-primary age children, laying a crucial foundation for their future academic development. His work in ECCE emphasizes age-appropriate pedagogy and child-centred learning approaches.
Beyond direct teacher training, Negi has actively promoted parent participation in their children’s education through the ‘Pehli Shikshak Maa’ programme. This initiative aims to empower mothers as the first educators, strengthening the home-school connection. He has also worked to fortify school-community partnerships, recognizing the integral role of community involvement in a school’s success. These efforts collectively contribute to a more supportive and collaborative educational ecosystem.

This sustained acclaim underscores his deep commitment to advancing educational standards and practices in the Kinnaur region.
