The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi, and the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) have entered into a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at bolstering academic research and collaboration between the two esteemed institutions.

Information was available with The Chenab Times detailing that the agreement establishes a framework for joint research initiatives, including the co-supervision of postgraduate students pursuing PhD, MTech, and MS(R) degrees. A key provision of this collaboration ensures that students will have at least one academic supervisor from IIT Delhi and another from a research institute affiliated with AcSIR.

The newly signed MoU is also set to facilitate academic and research visits for postgraduate students, research scholars, and faculty members to the partner institution. This exchange program will allow students from both IIT Delhi and AcSIR to undertake coursework and conduct research at either institution without the necessity of separate admissions or the payment of additional tuition fees at the host institution.

Furthermore, the collaboration extends to faculty members from IIT Delhi and AcSIR-associated research institutes, which include prominent entities like the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). These faculty members will be encouraged to engage in collaborative research projects focusing on areas of mutual interest.

The overarching objective of this partnership is to synergize the extensive academic and research capabilities of IIT Delhi with the broad network and specialized research facilities available through AcSIR-affiliated institutes. This synergy is expected to empower students and researchers to transcend institutional boundaries and foster a more integrated approach to scientific inquiry.

Professor Rangan Banerjee, Director of IIT Delhi, expressed optimism about the agreement, stating, “This collaboration is an opportunity to go beyond conventional student and faculty exchange and create a platform for sustained interaction among researchers. By bringing together the strengths and facilities of the IIT Delhi and the CSIR research laboratories, we can enable students and faculty to share ideas, pursue challenging research problems, and work toward solutions to important societal challenges.”

Professor Manoj K Dhar, Director of AcSIR, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the potential impact of the MoU. “This MoU will open up the extensive research infrastructure and expertise of IIT and AcSIR faculties to a wider pool of students and researchers. In particular, students will have opportunities to work on research problems with strong industrial relevance. We see this as a meaningful model of collaboration between AcSIR and IITs, and an important step towards creating deeper academic and research linkages,” Professor Dhar remarked.

The formal signing ceremony was attended by senior officials from both IIT Delhi and AcSIR, including their respective Directors, Deans, Associate Deans, and Heads of Departments. The event also featured presentations from both institutions, showcasing their ongoing academic and research activities, underscoring the mutual commitment to advancing scientific knowledge and innovation through this strategic alliance.
