Kathleen Turner has broken her silence following Michael Douglas’s recent admission that the two stars shared a secret romance during the filming of their 1984 hit, “Romancing the Stone.” Douglas, in his new memoir “One Helluva Ride,” confessed that he and Turner fell for each other while making the adventure comedy, a revelation that ended decades of denials from both actors.

The Chenab Times has learned that Douglas, 82, detailed in his memoir that his chemistry with Turner, 72, was so potent that audiences believed they were a couple both on and off-screen. He admitted that they did, in fact, have a relationship, a fact they concealed for approximately 40 years. Turner, in her response, acknowledged the surprise of Douglas’s public confession but also hinted at the complex dynamics of their past involvement, suggesting that while they were attracted to each other and perhaps “falling in love,” external factors, including Douglas’s then-marriage, played a role.

In a 2023 interview with The Guardian, Turner had previously spoken about Douglas, remarking on the “delicious” attention they received and hinting at a possible romantic entanglement. She stated at the time that her involvement ended because she did not want to become involved in another woman’s relationship, referring to Douglas’s wife, Diandra Luker. Douglas’s memoir confirms that the lie about their relationship was maintained for decades, partly to protect his then-wife and son, Cameron. He shared that while they were both “terrible flirts” and “tempted,” the official story of nothing happening between them was a fabrication.

The intense connection between Douglas and Turner was evident in their on-screen performances, which led to persistent rumors of a romance. They co-starred in two subsequent films, “The Jewel of the Nile” and “The War of the Roses,” and continued to deny any romantic involvement even during promotional tours for later projects, including “The Kominsky Method” a few years ago. Douglas’s memoir details that their relationship began to develop as they spent more time together during the production of “Romancing the Stone.” He also revealed that he sought Turner’s permission before disclosing their past romance in his book, highlighting their enduring friendship despite the complexities of their history.
