OpenAI is rolling out significant updates to its ChatGPT advertising platform, introducing a new visual ad format and bolstering measurement capabilities to provide advertisers with more effective ways to reach users. The company announced on October 5, 2026, that these enhancements aim to create new opportunities for businesses to engage with the platform’s rapidly growing user base, which now reaches 1.2 billion people weekly, positioning ChatGPT as the world’s largest AI-native consumer platform.
The newly introduced visual ad format is designed to showcase product inspiration, usage, or the experiences a product enables, allowing users to discover new brands and understand their offerings more clearly. OpenAI will initially test this format during image generation within ChatGPT, with ads being clearly labeled and kept separate from the AI-generated visuals. This initiative is set to begin in the U.S. later in October 2026 with a select group of advertisers.
Complementing the visual format, OpenAI has also expanded its measurement tools and partner ecosystem for ChatGPT Ads. These updates aim to address advertiser feedback regarding measurement difficulties and the need for more diverse ad formats. The platform now supports a range of in-house and partner-led solutions for tracking ad performance, including signals from its pixel and Conversions API, attribution, incrementality, and brand measurement.
OpenAI has integrated with data management platforms such as Hightouch, Tealium, and LiveRamp, enabling advertisers to send conversion data directly from their existing systems to ChatGPT Ads. The company is also collaborating with various attribution partners, including AppsFlyer, Triple Whale, Adjust, and DV Rockerbox, to offer comprehensive reporting and click attribution solutions. Early performance data shared by OpenAI indicates promising results; for instance, WeightWatchers saw a 15.3% lower cost per acquisition on ChatGPT Ads compared to its paid-search benchmark, according to DV Rockerbox.
Brand suitability is also a key focus, with OpenAI developing pilot programs alongside DoubleVerify and Integral Ad Science. These collaborations aim to provide advertisers with greater transparency and confidence in the contexts where their ads appear, while ensuring user privacy remains paramount and that ads do not influence ChatGPT’s independent answers.
The evolution of ChatGPT Ads reflects OpenAI’s strategy to monetize its platform beyond subscriptions, offering businesses a new avenue to connect with consumers during moments of high intent and decision-making. This move is part of a broader effort to develop AI-native advertising formats that are intrinsically suited to conversational interfaces, moving beyond traditional click-to-website models.
