Punjab’s Hoshiarpur Celebrates Literary Excellence at All-India Mushaira

Hoshiarpur, Punjab, became a hub for literary discourse as the District Writers’ Forum hosted an All-India Mushaira, culminating in the honouring of Ambala-based poet Nafas Ambalavi. The event, a vibrant confluence of Hindi, Urdu, and Punjabi poetry, celebrated themes ranging from love and societal changes to politics and activism, captivating an audience from across the nation.

Nafas Ambalavi Receives Prof Mohan Singh Aujla Award

The 14th Prof Mohan Singh Aujla Award for 2026 was conferred upon renowned poet Nafas Ambalavi in recognition of his significant contributions to literature. Ambalavi, an acclaimed author, was presented with the award amidst enthusiastic applause from attendees at the literary gathering.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the Mushaira was presided over by Raghbir Singh Terkiana, the forum secretary and organiser, whose dynamic presence and poetic interactions enriched the evening’s atmosphere.

Poets from various regions shared their verses, offering diverse perspectives. Chaman Lal Sharma from Chandigarh evoked deep emotion with his lines on love and longing, drawing a warm reception. Kulwant Beeba from Jammu presented a verse contemplating relationships and historical narratives, while Aqeel Ahmed Zia from Barabanki reflected on the growing self-centredness in contemporary society, questioning individual willingness to assist others.

Awardee Nafas Ambalavi Captivates Audience

A significant highlight of the evening was the performance by Nafas Ambalavi, the award recipient. His poetry masterfully blended philosophical depth with astute social and political commentary. He recited verses that touched upon themes of divine magnanimity and the human condition, including lines that observed the transactional nature of modern life and the perceived opportunism in politics. His anti-war sentiment was also powerfully conveyed through his recitation, advocating for an end to bloodshed.

Jagseer Jeeda further animated the gathering with traditional Punjabi boliyan, delivering a culturally resonant performance that garnered considerable appreciation.

In his concluding address, Raghbir Singh Terkiana affirmed the forum’s commitment to fostering literary culture within the region and providing a vital platform for both established and emerging poets. He also expressed aspirations to elevate future Mushaira events to an international scale by inviting global poets, with the aim of enhancing Hoshiarpur’s profile within the wider literary landscape.
