Atlassian and OpenAI have announced an expansion of their strategic partnership, integrating OpenAI’s advanced frontier models into Atlassian’s suite of products. This collaboration aims to transform how enterprise knowledge is utilized, enabling teams to move beyond mere information retrieval to taking concrete actions.

The expanded agreement, announced on October 6, 2026, will see OpenAI’s latest models, including GPT-6 Astra and the GPT-5.6 series, power AI agents across Atlassian’s platform and its Rovo assistant. This integration builds upon a collaboration that began in 2023, leveraging Atlassian’s Teamwork Graph—a comprehensive, permission-aware map of people, projects, documents, and decisions—to provide AI with deep contextual understanding of how a company operates.

For instance, a product manager could ask Rovo to assess launch readiness. Drawing on the Teamwork Graph, Rovo can analyze Jira tickets, Confluence documents, and related discussions to identify potential engineering roadblocks, highlight missed milestones, and surface critical decisions requiring attention. This allows for more informed planning, building, and delivery of projects.

The partnership also grants Atlassian expanded access to OpenAI’s cutting-edge models, enhancing efficiency and performance. Over 3,000 Atlassian developers are already utilizing OpenAI’s Codex through ChatGPT Enterprise, integrating it into their development workflows for coding, testing, and software delivery. Existing plugins facilitate access to relevant work items and technical documentation within these developer tools.

While current integrations focus on providing contextual assistance and enhancing reasoning capabilities, both companies are exploring deeper integrations with Jira. These future developments could enable teams to assign work directly to AI agents, track progress, capture decisions, and review outcomes, further streamlining workflows and fostering collaboration between humans and AI.

Atlassian and OpenAI are committed to ensuring that AI integration is grounded in responsible technology principles, focusing on transparency, trust, accountability, and human-centricity. Permissions set within Atlassian’s apps will be honored, ensuring that AI features only access resources to which users already have permission.
