Louis Garrel has been cast to play John Elkann, the chairman of Fiat’s parent company Stellantis, in Marco Bellocchio’s upcoming financial thriller titled ‘Falcon.’ The film, which is inspired by the life of the late Fiat-Chrysler executive Sergio Marchionne, is currently in production in Toronto. Garrel joins previously announced lead actor Pierfrancesco Favino, who will portray Marchionne.
The Chenab Times has learned that Rai Cinema International Distribution has secured the international sales rights for ‘Falcon.’ The production also features Benedetta Cimatti and Barbara Ronchi in supporting roles, with Valeria Bruni Tedeschi making an appearance. Bellocchio, a celebrated Italian filmmaker known for his works exploring Italian history and society, is directing the film.
While specific plot details beyond the inspiration from Marchionne’s career remain scarce, the casting of Garrel as Elkann suggests a deep dive into the intricate world of automotive finance and corporate leadership. Elkann has been a pivotal figure in the Fiat empire for nearly two decades, overseeing its merger with PSA Group to form Stellantis, one of the world’s largest automakers.
Sergio Marchionne, who passed away in 2018, was instrumental in the turnaround of both Fiat and Chrysler. His tenure was marked by significant strategic decisions, including the merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles with PSA Group, a move that ultimately paved the way for the creation of Stellantis.
Marco Bellocchio’s filmography includes acclaimed titles such as ‘Vincere,’ ‘Good Morning, Night,’ and ‘The Traitor,’ which have garnered critical praise and international recognition. His directorial approach often delves into complex characters and historical events with a nuanced perspective. The inclusion of a financial thriller genre in his recent work signals a continued exploration of contemporary societal themes.
The film’s production in Toronto places it within a vibrant filmmaking hub, facilitating international co-productions and access to a diverse talent pool. The involvement of Rai Cinema International Distribution further underscores the film’s potential for global reach and distribution.
Pierfrancesco Favino, a prominent Italian actor, is known for his roles in ‘The Traitor,’ ‘Rush,’ and ‘Night in Paradise.’ His portrayal of Marchionne is anticipated to be a central focus of the film, capturing the essence of the influential automotive executive.
Louis Garrel, a French actor and director, has gained international recognition for his performances in films like ‘The Dreamers,’ ‘Love Is Strange,’ and ‘Little Women.’ His casting as John Elkann adds a significant European presence to the ensemble and highlights the international scope of the narrative.
