MYLAVARAM, ANDHRA PRADESH – In a significant initiative to combat the growing menace of drug abuse, a candle rally was organized in Mylavaram, NTR district, as part of ‘Operation Trishul’ on Thursday, October 8, 2026.

According to details received by The Chenab Times, the rally saw the participation of students from various educational institutions, members of the Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, NGOs, and local police personnel. The event aimed to spread awareness about the severe ill-effects of drug abuse and to encourage a community-wide stance against substance abuse.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rural) Lakshmi Narayana, Mylavaram Assistant Commissioner of Police P. Ramachandra Rao, and Circle Inspector K. Kishore Babu were among the police officials who led the procession. During the rally, officers engaged with the students, elaborating on the dangers associated with drug consumption and also highlighting the risks of rash and negligent driving.

The students actively participated, raising slogans against drugs and demonstrating their commitment to a drug-free society. Police officers from G. Konduru and Reddigudem, along with students from Lakkireddy Balreddy College of Engineering and other institutions, also joined the program, reinforcing the collective effort against drug abuse.

‘Operation Trishul’ is a broader campaign initiated by the Andhra Pradesh government to address multiple issues including drug trafficking, crimes against women, and road accidents. The strategy, directed by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, aims for ‘zero drugs, zero tolerance towards atrocities against women, and zero road accidents’. State and district-level committees have been formed under the ‘Trishul’ banner to prepare and monitor time-bound action plans.

Earlier, ‘Operation Trishul’ was launched in NTR district to enhance public safety and welfare. District Collector G. Lakshmisha, in coordination with Commissioner of Police SV Rajasekhar Babu, outlined the initiative’s focus on identifying drug users, preventing relapse, and increasing visible policing in vulnerable areas. The campaign also includes the promotion of the confidential ‘Eagle’ toll-free helpline ‘1972’ for reporting drug-related activities and emphasizes intensive awareness programs in educational institutions.

Similar awareness programs have been conducted across various districts in Andhra Pradesh. In Chittoor, an awareness program addressed drug abuse, cyber crimes, women’s safety, and road safety. Officials have consistently urged the public to report any information related to drug trade and abuse, assuring confidentiality and emphasizing the importance of community participation in building a safer and healthier state.
