Una police have apprehended a man from Uttar Pradesh in connection with the alleged duping and robbery of a woman constable of her jewellery and mobile phone in Una city approximately three weeks ago. The arrest was made on Thursday, bringing one suspect into custody as the investigation continues for an accomplice.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that on September 25, two unidentified men on a motorcycle approached an off-duty woman constable on Arvind Marg, a busy street in Una, located about 100 metres from the Sadar police station. CCTV footage captured the interaction, showing the two individuals conversing with the constable before she appeared to hand over her gold chain, gold ring, and mobile phone to one of the accused.

Following the incident, the Una Superintendent of Police (SP), Sachin Hiremath, stated that a dedicated three-member team was formed to investigate the case. This team comprised the Station House Officer (SHO) of the Una Sadar police station, along with personnel from the Special Cell and the Cyber Cell of the police force. For the past 25 days, the police had been actively pursuing leads, utilizing both human intelligence and technical surveillance to track down one of the suspects.

SP Hiremath detailed the extensive efforts undertaken by the police team, which pursued leads across Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Their persistent investigation culminated in the apprehension of one of the accused, identified as Imran Khan, on the outskirts of Meerut city. Imran Khan, also known by the alias Raja and a resident of Meerut, has since been brought to Una. The search for the second individual involved in the incident is currently ongoing.

The Superintendent of Police further revealed that the apprehended duo is believed to be part of a larger criminal network with numerous cases registered against them across various parts of the country. He described their modus operandi as one that involves building trust and deceiving individuals to voluntarily part with their valuables. SP Hiremath issued an advisory to the general public, urging them to exercise caution and remain vigilant when interacting with strangers.

The investigation is expected to shed more light on the extent of the gang’s operations and any potential connections to other criminal activities. The recovery of the stolen jewellery and mobile phone is also a priority for the police as they continue to build their case against the arrested individual and search for his associate.
