Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir: Security forces and police have initiated multiple search operations across four locations in the border district of Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir, as part of intensified security measures. The operations follow recent incidents including the killing of four suspected militants from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir in an IED blast and the subsequent discovery of a militant hideout in the Satharban forests.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Gursai launched a comprehensive search in the Gursai-Harooni-Baidhar area within the Mendhar sub-division. This operation is designed to sweep the region for any signs of militant activity or presence.

In a coordinated effort, the SOG Mendhar, along with units of the Army’s Rashtriya Rifles, commenced a joint search operation in Dharana village, encompassing the Kashmir Mohalla, Behri forest, and surrounding areas. This multi-agency approach aims to enhance the operational reach and effectiveness of the security grid.

Further contributing to the heightened security posture, the SOG Mankote has also launched its own search operation in the sensitive Manglanu-Chilla forest regions, which fall under the jurisdiction of the Mankote police post. These forests are often used as transit routes or temporary shelters by militants operating in the region.

Officials stated that the primary objective behind these extensive operations is to fortify security arrangements and proactively detect and prevent any potential movement of militants within the strategically important border district. The focus is on maintaining a strong security presence and gathering actionable intelligence.

These search initiatives are a direct response to the evolving security landscape in the region. Last week, an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated across the Line of Control, adjacent to the Krishna Ghati sector in Poonch, resulting in the deaths of four suspected militants. This incident underscored the persistent threat posed by cross-border militant infiltration and activity.

Following the IED blast, security forces successfully busted a militant hideout in the Satharban forests. During the search of the hideout, operatives recovered significant quantities of arms and ammunition, including an automatic rifle, six hand grenades, and other crucial war-like stores. The recovery highlighted the operational preparedness and logistical support available to militant groups active in the area.

The ongoing search operations are part of a broader strategy by security agencies to dismantle militant networks, disrupt their logistical chains, and ensure the safety and security of the civilian population in Poonch and adjoining districts. The heightened alert and operational tempo reflect the authorities’ commitment to maintaining peace and stability in Jammu and Kashmir.

The deployment of specialized units like the SOG, coupled with the support of the Indian Army’s Rashtriya Rifles, demonstrates a robust and coordinated approach to counter-insurgency operations. The focus remains on thoroughness and precision in these search missions, ensuring that no potential threat is overlooked in the vast and often challenging terrain of the district.

Authorities have emphasized that these operations are routine and necessary in the current security environment, aiming to preemptively address any security challenges. The cooperation between different branches of the security forces is crucial for the success of such extensive search and combing operations in areas prone to militant infiltration and activity.
