Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Mansa, Vijay Singla, has distanced himself from Ashwani, the chemist accused of murdering anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota. Singla stated that he was aware of Ashwani’s character and had never communicated with him, directly refuting allegations of patronage.

MLA Addresses Accusations Amidst Murder Investigation

Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that Ashwani is accused of opening fire on Parvinder Singh Jhota at his shop on Tuesday morning, an incident that has caused significant distress. Responding to the development, MLA Vijay Singla described the incident as painful and emphasized that the accused should face due punishment for his actions. He also urged the public to refrain from internal conflicts related to the matter.

Singla explicitly challenged anyone to produce evidence of any interaction or meeting with Ashwani in the past five years, asserting that the accused had never approached him or been entertained by his office. These statements come amid ongoing protests where individuals have alleged that Ashwani benefited from the MLA’s support.

Further addressing claims that linked Ashwani to Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Cheema, Singla maintained that Cheema also had no association with the accused and might not even know him. However, this contradicts the repeated allegations made by Bhim Singh, the father of the deceased activist, who has identified Ashwani as a close relative of Harpal Cheema.

The Mansa MLA suggested that protesters were making extraneous statements by involving political leaders in the case. He stressed that the primary focus should remain on securing justice for Parvinder Singh Jhota. Singla reiterated his stance that those found responsible for the activist’s murder must be held accountable and punished accordingly.
