Mercedes-Benz and NVIDIA are expanding their strategic alliance to advance the development of safe, highly automated driving systems for the next decade. The enhanced collaboration integrates NVIDIA’s advanced computing and AI technologies with Mercedes-Benz’s automotive engineering prowess and its MB.OS operating system.
Expanded Collaboration Targets Next-Generation Automated Driving
The renewed partnership will combine Mercedes-Benz’s expertise in automotive engineering and safety with NVIDIA’s Hyperion compute and sensor architecture, Alpamayo Stack software, and Halos safety system. This integration aims to accelerate the creation of automated vehicles, with a particular focus on developing Level 4 robolimousines—vehicles capable of operating without driver intervention under specific conditions. Information was available with The Chenab Times.
Jörg Burzer, member of the board of management and chief technology officer for development and procurement at Mercedes-Benz Group AG, highlighted NVIDIA as a crucial strategic partner in automated driving. “The expansion of our partnership marks a significant milestone and reflects the mutual trust we have built over the years,” Burzer stated. “Together, we aim to bring further pioneering innovations to the road, offering our customers the best automated driving experience while upholding the high safety standards they expect from a Mercedes-Benz.”
Ali Kani, vice president of automotive at NVIDIA, emphasized the role of accelerated computing in enabling vehicles to understand their environment and navigate complex driving scenarios. “Mercedes-Benz brings the engineering excellence and commitment to safety this transformation demands,” Kani said. “Together, we’re building on NVIDIA Hyperion to bring that intelligence and full-stack safety to the road and make autonomous driving an everyday reality.”
Integration Across Vehicle Lifecycle
Beyond vehicle development, NVIDIA’s technology will also be integrated into Mercedes-Benz’s MO360 production network and its engineering simulation infrastructure. This comprehensive approach ensures that NVIDIA’s platforms are involved throughout the entire product lifecycle, from design and manufacturing to operational performance.
The partnership’s explicit targeting of Level 4 robolimousines signifies a commitment to pushing the boundaries of autonomous driving technology. This move aligns with the broader trend in the automotive industry towards increasingly sophisticated driver-assistance and self-driving capabilities.
This expansion follows a recent trend of deepening collaborations between major automakers and technology providers in the autonomous driving sector. NVIDIA has also recently announced an expanded partnership with Volvo, underscoring the company’s strategic focus on embedding its platforms as a standard across the automotive industry.
