A 33-year-old cobbler has been arrested in southeast Delhi’s Jaitpur for allegedly slitting the throat of a labourer following a dispute over non-payment for food and repeated verbal abuse. The incident occurred late on October 15, when the accused, Sandeep Ram, allegedly confronted the victim, Sandeep Kumar, 36, near his street food cart. According to police reports, an argument ensued, during which Ram allegedly used a knife from his cart and a gamchha (towel) to kill Kumar before fleeing the scene.

Body Discovered in Abandoned Shop

The body of Sandeep Kumar was discovered the following morning, October 16, inside an abandoned shop in Shakti Vihar, Meethapur, after a PCR call was received around 7:15 a.m. A police team at the scene found a deep cut wound on the victim’s neck. Crime scene investigators and forensic teams examined the location. The deceased was later identified by his father, Raj Kumar.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the alleged motive for the murder stemmed from Kumar’s frequent consumption of food from Ram’s cart without payment, coupled with instances of verbal abuse directed at the cobbler. Police have recovered the alleged murder weapon, a knife, and the gamchha used in the crime. The accused’s clothing was also recovered from the Tekhand Depot area in Okhla.

Investigation and Legal Proceedings

The investigation involved the use of CCTV footage, which aided in the apprehension of the accused. Police have registered a case under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Jaitpur police station. The accused was taken into custody and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation. This incident highlights a series of violent crimes reported in Delhi, with various news outlets reporting on disputes escalating to fatal altercations over financial or personal disagreements in recent weeks.

The Delhi Police have been actively working to address the rising crime rates in the city. Recent reports from various news agencies, including Hindustan Times and NDTV, indicate a pattern of violent incidents, including stabbings and murders, often stemming from personal disputes. The authorities continue to enhance surveillance and investigative measures to ensure public safety. The recovered evidence, including the alleged weapon of offence and clothing, is expected to be crucial in the ongoing legal proceedings against Sandeep Ram.
