Seema Kumari, a long-distance runner from Chamba who achieved an Asian Games bronze medal, has announced her engagement. The athlete shared the news of her engagement to Aman Chaudhary on social media, marking a new chapter in her personal life.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that Seema Kumari, who hails from a remote village in the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, became engaged on Monday evening. She posted pictures from the ceremony on her Facebook page, accompanied by a caption indicating a significant personal milestone. Her fiancé, Aman Chaudhary, is from Mandi and is also a former state-level athlete, having competed in the 5,000-metre and 10,000-metre races, disciplines in which Seema Kumari also excels.
Kumari stated that she and Chaudhary have known each other for approximately nine years and that he has been a consistent source of support, both in her athletic career and personal life. Their acquaintance began on the sports field, and their relationship developed over time through mutual understanding. Chaudhary, who had a career as a state-level competitor before joining the Forensic Department, has reportedly continued to encourage and support Kumari’s aspirations as an athlete.
Seema Kumari began her running career about a decade ago and has since consistently secured medals at national and international competitions. Her national recognition escalated significantly following her bronze medal win in the 10,000-metre race at the Asian Games. This achievement made her the first woman from Himachal Pradesh to earn an athletics medal at the Asian Games, breaking a 40-year-long gap since Suman Rawat’s bronze medal performance at the 1986 Asian Games.
Despite her engagement, Kumari emphasized that her commitment to sports remains her primary focus. She indicated that upcoming major events such as the Olympics and Commonwealth Games are high on her list of priorities. Kumari indicated that while marriage might occur either before or after these events, her athletic career will continue to be paramount for the foreseeable future, stating that sports will remain her top priority for the next several years.
