The Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Limited (APTRANSCO) is preparing to access capital markets to fund its ambitious infrastructure development plans. This strategic move aims to secure the substantial investment required to bolster the state’s power transmission network and meet the escalating demand for electricity.

APTRANSCO has outlined a comprehensive plan to complete 55 major transmission projects with a total investment of approximately ₹9,300 crore. This initiative is designed to strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s power infrastructure by enhancing grid reliability, supporting the rising demand from domestic, industrial, and commercial consumers, and facilitating the seamless integration of renewable energy sources into the grid. The projects aim to improve network strength, reduce congestion, and ensure a stable and uninterrupted power supply across the state.

A significant focus of APTRANSCO’s development strategy involves strengthening transmission infrastructure to efficiently evacuate power generated from solar and wind projects, particularly those located in remote areas, and deliver it to load centers. This aligns with the state’s long-term energy planning objectives, emphasizing improved grid resilience and operational flexibility. The modernization of transmission assets is considered crucial for balancing the variability of renewable energy while maintaining a consistent power supply.

The planned transmission projects will span multiple regions within Andhra Pradesh, promoting balanced infrastructure development in both urban and rural areas. This approach is expected to lead to improved voltage quality, reduced technical losses, and an overall enhancement in the reliability of power supply for end consumers. The corporation is prioritizing the timely execution of these projects, with an emphasis on modern grid management techniques and advanced technologies.

Further underscoring its commitment to infrastructure enhancement, APTRANSCO is also in the planning stages for an additional 72 transmission projects, with tenders anticipated to be invited within the next three months. Among these, 24 major transmission projects, encompassing 400 kV, 220 kV, and 132 kV lines, are being executed at a cost of ₹3,507 crore and are expected to be commissioned within the next six months. These projects are integral to APTRANSCO’s long-term infrastructure development strategy.

The state’s Chief Secretary, K Vijayanand, has stressed the importance of strengthening Andhra Pradesh’s power transmission system, highlighting the government’s priority in this area. Efforts are underway to ensure adherence to project timelines, with particular attention to industrial corridors and urban clusters. Daily field-level monitoring, weekly progress reviews, and coordination with district authorities are being implemented to expedite project execution. Emphasis is also placed on third-party quality checks and audits to maintain stringent safety and construction standards, especially for projects within the APCRDA region.

Recent commissioned projects include a Bus Reactor for Reactive Power Management and a 220kV double circuit line between Gunadala and Nunna substations, utilizing monopoles to enhance system reliability. Ongoing work includes expanding ICT capacity, constructing new substations, and managing line diversions in the capital region. Tenders have been floated for 31 new projects valued at ₹3,614 crore, contributing to the overall investment in the transmission network.

The Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation Limited (APGENCO), a sister entity, has also been involved in infrastructure development, with plans to invest significantly in power projects. In a separate but related development, APSECM (Andhra Pradesh State Energy Conservation Mission) in-charge Managing Director, P. Pulla Reddy, has advocated for the rapid mobilization of both public and private capital for energy-efficiency projects across the state. This suggests a comprehensive approach to enhancing Andhra Pradesh’s energy sector through strategic investments and efficiency improvements.
