Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) is set to enhance its services with the commencement of Phase-2 Yellow Line operations at an earlier hour, starting from October 23. The metro trains will now begin running at 6 AM, a shift from the previous 7 AM start time.

Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that this adjustment in the timetable has been implemented in response to growing commuter demand for extended travel options throughout the day. The enhanced schedule is expected to provide greater flexibility for passengers navigating the city, particularly those who require earlier access to public transportation for work or other daily commitments.

During weekday peak hours, the Yellow Line will operate with trains departing at 10-minute intervals, a frequency designed to efficiently manage the higher volume of passengers. For non-peak periods, the service interval will be extended to 15 minutes, ensuring a consistent and reliable transport solution for commuters across different times of the day.

The Phase-2 of the Chennai Metro project encompasses a significant expansion of the city’s rapid transit network. The Yellow Line, specifically, is a crucial component of this expansion, aiming to connect key areas and alleviate traffic congestion. The introduction of earlier operating hours is a strategic move by CMRL to better serve the evolving needs of Chennai’s urban population and to promote greater reliance on public transport.

Commuters have expressed optimism about the new timings, anticipating that the 6 AM start will allow for smoother commutes and potentially reduce reliance on private vehicles, thereby contributing to reduced road congestion and a more sustainable urban environment. The increased frequency during peak hours is also a welcome development for those facing long queues and crowded trains, suggesting an improvement in the overall passenger experience.

CMRL has been actively working on the expansion of the metro network, with Phase-2 projects involving the construction of new lines and extensions to existing ones. The Yellow Line’s operational enhancements are part of a broader strategy to optimize the metro’s utility and accessibility for the residents of Chennai. Further updates on operational changes and service improvements are expected as the project progresses and passenger feedback is continuously assessed.
