A new administrative initiative has been launched in Himachal Pradesh’s Dehra constituency, bringing government services closer to the residents of Haripur. A weekly camp office for the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Dehra has commenced operations, aimed at facilitating the prompt resolution of public grievances and reducing the need for residents to travel to the main administrative centre for routine matters.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the camp office was inaugurated on Wednesday at the Public Works Department (PWD) Rest House, following directives from Dehra MLA Kamlesh Thakur. The move is intended to enhance direct interaction between the administration and the populace, ensuring greater transparency and efficiency in addressing public concerns. The establishment of this localized administrative point is expected to significantly benefit the population residing in and around Haripur.
During the inaugural session, SDM Kulwant Singh Potan was welcomed by Block Congress president Kamlesh Kumar Chaudhary, Haripur Vyapar Mandal president Atul Mahajan, and other local dignitaries and residents. He was felicitated with a traditional shawl and cap, signifying the community’s appreciation for the accessibility initiative.
SDM Potan announced that the camp office will convene every Wednesday. In instances where Wednesday falls on a public holiday, the camp will be rescheduled to the following working day. Complementing this effort, the Dehra Block Development Officer will also conduct camps twice weekly, further decentralizing administrative support.
Instructions were issued by the SDM to all officials present to meticulously register every application and complaint received during the camps. These registered grievances are to be promptly forwarded to the respective departments for action. A key directive stipulated that heads of departments must attend the subsequent Wednesday camp sessions prepared to present written reports detailing the actions taken on the complaints lodged during the previous week. This mechanism is designed to ensure accountability and time-bound disposal of administrative matters.
The SDM emphasized that this initiative is crucial for strengthening the direct communication channels between the administrative machinery and the residents. He highlighted that the camp office would foster an environment of transparency and ensure that complaints are addressed within stipulated timelines. Haripur, a town historically significant and known for its association with the Kangra miniature painting tradition, has seen a resurgence of administrative attention with this development. Residents have expressed their satisfaction with the administration’s move to bring essential services to their doorstep.
Historically, Haripur has held importance as a former capital of a princely state. However, in recent times, the town and its surrounding areas have faced periods of administrative neglect. The current initiative is anticipated to provide substantial relief and support to a large segment of the population in the vicinity of Haripur, addressing long-standing issues of accessibility to administrative resources.
