A prominent leader of the Himachal Pradesh Youth Congress, Chandermani Kulethi, died tragically on Wednesday night after suffering an electrocution while making arrangements for Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s visit to the Holi valley in Chamba district.
Tragic Incident in Holi Valley
Information was available with The Chenab Times that Kulethi was actively involved in preparations for the Chief Minister’s two-day visit, which included putting up posters and banners along with other Youth Congress workers. During these arrangements, he reportedly came into contact with an exposed electric wire, leading to a fatal electrocution. He was declared dead at the scene.
The untimely death of Kulethi prompted an immediate response from the Chief Minister. Sukhu, deeply saddened by the incident, cancelled all his scheduled engagements for the planned visit to Holi. He was expected to reach the valley to attend the young leader’s cremation, a testament to the impact Kulethi had within the party.
In a condolence message shared across his social media platforms, Chief Minister Sukhu expressed his profound grief, describing Kulethi’s death as deeply saddening. He noted that the Congress party had lost a dedicated and hardworking young colleague, highlighting Kulethi’s enthusiasm and tireless efforts in preparing for the Holi program over several days. The Chief Minister extended his heartfelt condolences to Kulethi’s bereaved family.
Condolences and Investigation
Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Vikramaditya Singh also conveyed his sorrow over the passing of Kulethi. The deceased Youth Congress leader was known to be close to Minister Singh and former minister Thakur Singh Bharmouri. Kulethi was also considered a potential candidate for a Congress ticket from the Bharmour Assembly constituency, indicating his growing influence within state politics.
Prior to his death, Kulethi had participated in a protest organised by the INDIA bloc against the Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar, signalling his engagement in broader political activities. His untimely demise leaves a void in the party’s youth wing.
Kulethi is survived by his parents, his wife, and their two-year-old son. The loss is particularly poignant given his young age and the responsibilities he held within the party and his family.
Following the incident, the local police have registered a case under the relevant sections of law. An investigation has been initiated to thoroughly examine the circumstances that led to the fatal electrocution, aiming to determine any potential negligence or contributing factors.
