A high-value criminal, wanted in multiple states and carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh, was apprehended by Delhi Police in South Delhi on Sunday morning following a shootout. The accused was allegedly conducting reconnaissance of farmhouses in the area to plan a dacoity.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the incident occurred around 6:25 am when a police team from Maidan Garhi police station, acting on specific intelligence, intercepted the suspect as he arrived on a motorcycle from Bass Gaon Road. The individual, identified as Savan alias Sudhan, is reported to be associated with the notorious ‘Chhaimar’ gang, also known as the ‘Kachha-Baniyan’ gang. Following his arrest, he was transported to the AIIMS Trauma Centre for medical treatment.

Police officials stated that Savan alias Sudhan was allegedly scouting farmhouses in the vicinity to identify potential targets for a large-scale robbery. When the police team moved to apprehend him, the suspect reportedly drew a country-made pistol and opened fire. Sub-Inspector Narendra Kumar responded by firing three warning shots. However, the accused allegedly produced a second country-made pistol and fired again, with one bullet striking the officer’s bulletproof jacket.

The Rs 1 lakh reward on Savan alias Sudhan had been declared by the Additional Director General of Police, Varanasi Zone. This reward was in connection with a dacoity-cum-murder case registered in 2014 at the Shahganj police station in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh. Police records further indicate his alleged involvement in a robbery-cum-murder case filed at Raya police station in Mathura in 2016. Additionally, he was reportedly a wanted individual in another murder-cum-robbery case registered at City-2 police station in Mansa, Punjab, in 2024.

Investigators believe Savan alias Sudhan, who is known to use several other aliases including Hira, Muchhoda Fufa, and Muchhoda Chacha, has been involved in criminal activities across Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Rajasthan. His arrest is considered a significant development in curbing organized crime in the region, particularly those involving farmhouses often used for such activities due to their secluded nature and perceived security vulnerabilities.

The apprehension highlights the persistent threat posed by inter-state criminal networks operating within and around the National Capital Region. Police efforts are ongoing to dismantle such gangs and prevent planned criminal activities. The investigation into Savan alias Sudhan’s network and past activities is expected to continue, with authorities aiming to gather more intelligence on the operations of the ‘Chhaimar’ gang.

The incident underscores the proactive measures taken by the Delhi Police to maintain law and order and ensure the safety of its citizens, especially in areas with a high concentration of farmhouses. The success of the operation, despite an exchange of fire, demonstrates the operational preparedness and courage of the police personnel involved.

Further details regarding the investigation and potential recovery of incriminating evidence are anticipated as the police continue their work. The recovery of firearms used in the exchange of fire and during the alleged criminal planning phase is a key priority for the investigating team.
