Netflix has implemented layoffs affecting its U.K. workforce, with Anna Mallett, Vice President of Production for the UK & EMEA, confirmed to be among the departing employees. The streaming giant is reducing its staff by approximately 2-3 percent in its London office, impacting several hundred employees as part of broader global restructuring efforts.
The recent job cuts come shortly after Netflix announced plans to reduce its global workforce by approximately 6 percent, totaling around 1,000 roles. These layoffs, described as the largest since 2022, primarily target product, technology, legal, and human resources teams.
Mallett, who joined Netflix in 2021, previously served as CEO of ITN. Before her tenure at ITN, she held significant roles at BBC Studios, including Chief Operating Officer and Managing Director of Production.
Her departure follows a period of increased scrutiny on Netflix’s growth and viewer engagement. The company has been working to address concerns from Wall Street regarding slowing growth and has explored new revenue streams, including advertising and gaming, alongside its core subscription model.
Netflix has not provided a specific breakdown of which countries or departments are most affected by the global layoffs, but the impact on the UK operations, including the departure of a key production executive, signifies a strategic recalibration by the company.
