Magnitude 2.7 Earthquake Strikes Kishtwar, Tremors Felt Across Chenab Valley

KISHTWAR, MAY 10 – A minor earthquake of magnitude 2.7 struck Kishtwar district in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday afternoon, according to data from the National Centre for Seismology (NCS). The tremors were felt across the Chenab Valley, including parts of Kishtwar and neighbouring Doda district.

The quake occurred at 15:14 IST (09:44 UTC) at a shallow depth of 5 kilometres, with the epicentre located at latitude 33.15°N and longitude 75.95°E, near the Bunjwah area, the NCS’s Bhookamp mobile application showed.

There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties. However, residents in several parts of Doda and Kishtwar districts reported feeling light tremors.

Seismic activity is not uncommon in the region, which lies in a seismically active zone of the western Himalayas.
