Cloudburst Devastates Rajgarh Village in Ramban, Claims Five Lives

RAMBAN, August 30— A cloudburst struck Rajgarh village in Ramban district on the intervening night of August 29-30, 2025, triggering flash floods that killed five people and damaged two residential houses, according to details received by The Chenab Times. Three bodies have been recovered, while two individuals remain missing, with rescue operations ongoing.

Local sources told The Chenab Times that the deceased are identified as Om Raj, son of Raghu Nath from Banshara Rajgarh; Bidya Devi, wife of Trilok Nath from Gadigram; Dwarka Nath, son of Ram Chand from Gadigram; Ashwani Sharma, son of Mohan Lal from Gadigram; and Virta Devi, daughter of Mohan Lal from Gadigram. The incident occurred around 1-2 a.m., with Ansar QRT Rajgarh, Civil QRT Ramban, and police teams mobilized since the night to conduct rescue efforts. SSP and DC Ramban arrived this morning to monitor the situation.

The Meteorological Center Srinagar had issued a weather update at 9:33 p.m. IST yesterday, warning of moderate to heavy rain with intense showers over the next 12 hours in Jammu, Kathua, Rajouri, Reasi, Doda, Samba, and Udhampur, highlighting risks of flash floods and landslides. Concurrently, heavy rainfall and thunderstorms hit the Chenab Valley, impacting Bhaderwah, Doda, Saraz, Thathri, Bhalessa, Banihal, Ramban, Drabshalla, Kishtwar, and other areas. Overflowing streets have sparked concerns, with residents seeking highway updates. The Traffic Control Unit (TCU) Ramban confirmed that NH-44 will remain closed to vehicular movement tomorrow due to restoration work at Ballii Nallah, advising commuters to follow traffic advisories and contact TCU before travel.
