A video recorded by Dr Umar un Nabi, the main accused in the November 10 car bomb blast near Delhi’s Red Fort that killed 13 people, has been recovered by investigators. In the footage, he describes suicide bombings as “martyrdom operations” in Islam.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, the undated self-recorded video shows Dr Umar Mohammad, also known as Umar-un-Nabi, speaking in English while sitting alone in a room. He addresses what he calls a “very misunderstood concept” of suicide bombing.
“One of the very misunderstood concepts is the concept of suicide bombing; it is a martyrdom operation; as it has been known in Islam,” Dr Umar says in the video, as per the recovered footage.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the video was obtained during the ongoing probe into the high-intensity explosion in Old Delhi. Officials state that Dr Umar justifies the act by explaining a “martyrdom operation” as a situation where a person accepts certain death at a specific time and place, distinguishing it from suicide, which is prohibited in Islam.
He further states that no one can predict the exact moment of death unless it is destined and advises not to fear death.
Investigators have identified Dr Umar un Nabi as the driver of the explosive-laden vehicle. DNA samples matched with his mother’s confirmed his involvement. The blast killed 13 people and injured several others.
The video is believed to reflect the ideological motivation of Dr Umar, described by officials as a key figure in the terror module responsible for the attack. No date for the recording has been confirmed.
