Madhya Pradesh cadre IAS officer Meenakshi Singh has stirred controversy after a video surfaced showing her advocating for a caste-conscious mindset as the need of the hour during a speech at a conference in Bhopal. The remarks have drawn sharp criticism from upper-caste groups who termed them casteist and unbecoming of a civil servant.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, Singh addressed a gathering organised by Anusuchit Jati and Janjati Adhikari Evam Karmachari Sangh at Ambedkar Park. The Print reported that in the viral clip, she stated people must assert their caste identity and adopt a jaativaadi approach to counter favoritism in upper-caste society.
Singh said individuals should identify and help their own community members. India Today reported she emphasized telling children about their Adivasi or Scheduled Caste roots, adding that seeing surnames lead to favoritism in savarna society makes such mentality necessary for others.
The 2013-batch promoted officer’s comments prompted calls for action from Akhil Bharatiya Brahmin Samaj president Pushpendra Mishra, who urged Chief Minister Mohan Yadav to intervene against caste bias. Free Press Journal reported Singh underwent surgery and was unavailable for comment.
This marks the second recent incident involving Madhya Pradesh IAS officers. Earlier, AJJAKS state president Santosh Verma faced disciplinary action for remarks on Brahmin daughters and reservation, leading to his removal as deputy secretary in the agriculture department. The Print reported an investigation found a fake promotion order facilitated his elevation to IAS.
