Jammu and Kashmir Police have detained four persons accused of assaulting a tourist in the Bhaderwah area of Doda district.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, a written complaint was lodged on February 6 at Police Station Bhaderwah by Suresh Kumar, a resident of Nagni Bhalra in Tehsil Bhaderwah, reporting the assault on a tourist the previous day. Acting promptly on the complaint to prevent any escalation or breach of peace, Jammu and Kashmir Police in Doda initiated preventive action under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) on February 7.
The detained individuals are Javed Iqbal, son of Ali Mohd, resident of Kholra Basti, Bhaderwah; Owais Ahmed, son of Showket Ali, resident of Kholra Basti, Bhaderwah; Khursheed Ahmed, son of Mohd Yasir, resident of Nalthi, Bhaderwah; and Avinash Manhas, son of Vipin Manhas, resident of Nalthi, Tehsil Bhaderwah. All four have been produced before the Executive Magistrate 1st Class in Bhaderwah for further legal proceedings as per law.
Bhaderwah, a scenic town in the mountainous Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, attracts tourists with its lush valleys, alpine meadows, and natural attractions in the Chenab region. Any incident involving visitor safety can affect the local economy, which relies heavily on tourism, especially during the winter and early spring seasons when visitors from other parts of India frequent the area.
No additional information has been released officially regarding the specifics of the assault, the tourist’s identity, or any injuries reported. Authorities have not confirmed whether the investigation will lead to further arrests or formal charges.
