JAMMU, March 30: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Secretariat has announced the election schedule for three financial committees of the House, with each committee to comprise 11 members. The notification, issued by the Assembly Secretariat, outlines the key dates for the nomination and polling processes.
Election Schedule Announced
Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that the elections are being conducted in accordance with Regulation No. 2(1) of the Regulations for conducting elections to Assembly Committees on the principle of proportional representation through a single transferable vote. Speaker Advocate Abdul Rahim Rather made the announcement regarding the schedule for these upcoming elections.
The nomination period will conclude on April 4, 2026, with nominations to be submitted by 3 PM. Following this, the scrutiny of nominations is slated for April 6, 2026, also by 3 PM. Candidates wishing to withdraw their candidature will have until April 8, 2026, to do so by 3 PM. If polls become necessary, they will be held on April 13, 2026, concluding at 3 PM.
Returning Officer Appointed
Advocate Abdul Rahim Rather has also appointed Mr. Bilal Ahmed Bhat, Additional Secretary of the Legislative Assembly, to serve as the Returning Officer. Mr. Bhat will be responsible for overseeing the entire election process to ensure its smooth and orderly conduct. The notification has stressed the importance of adherence to the stipulated regulations and timelines for the successful execution of the elections to these financial committees.
