SRINAGAR, Mar 31: The strategic Mughal Road, connecting the Kashmir Valley with the Jammu region, has been temporarily shut for vehicular traffic following overnight rainfall and snowfall at Pir Gali. The closure is a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of travelers.
Road Shut After Adverse Weather
Officials announced the closure on Tuesday after adverse weather conditions were reported at Pir Gali, a high-altitude pass on the Mughal Road. Heavy rainfall and snowfall during the night rendered the road unsafe for movement.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, SSP Traffic Rural Farooq Qasier stated that the road will remain closed until the conditions are assessed and deemed safe for travel. Further updates regarding the reopening of the route will be communicated once the road is cleared and verified by authorities.
Travelers and commuters planning to use the Mughal Road have been advised to avoid non-essential journeys. They have also been urged to exercise caution in the affected areas until the road is officially reopened.
The Mughal Road, an alternative route to the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, is often susceptible to closures during the winter months due to harsh weather conditions, including snowfall and landslides. Its temporary closure can impact transportation and logistics between the two regions, necessitating adherence to official advisories.
