Jammu and Kashmir Govt Rules Out Fee Waivers for Job Applications

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir administration has stated that there are no proposals under consideration to exempt or provide concessions on application fees for government job recruitments in the Union Territory.

The government’s response came in reply to an unstarred Assembly Question No 997, submitted by MLA Hilal Akbar Lone. The question sought a waiver of application fees in light of increasing unemployment rates and prevailing financial difficulties faced by residents.

Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that recruitment agencies incur substantial costs in conducting selection processes. The government clarified that bodies such as the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC), responsible for recruiting gazetted posts, and the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB), handling non-gazetted posts, bear significant expenditures.

These expenditures, the administration stated, arise from various stages of the recruitment cycle. This includes the conduct of written or OMR-based examinations, interviews, the engagement of subject matter experts, and the deployment of necessary manpower and infrastructure. The reply further highlighted that the recruitment procedures are intricate and sensitive, demanding strict adherence to standards of security, fairness, and transparency.

The government also noted that the costs associated with these processes have escalated with the integration of advanced technological interventions. These technological advancements are implemented to ensure the integrity and efficiency of the selection procedures, further contributing to the overall expenditure.

Consequently, the prescribed examination fee is considered essential to offset a portion of these mounting costs. These expenses are incurred at multiple junctures of the recruitment process. The administration’s response effectively rules out any immediate relief for job aspirants in the form of fee waivers, reiterating the necessity of the fees to manage operational expenses.
