Ladakh Administration Approves Age Relaxation for Border Area Candidates in SI Recruitment

Srinagar: The Union Territory administration of Ladakh has approved a significant age relaxation for candidates residing in areas bordering the Actual Line of Control (ALC) for upcoming Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitments in the Ladakh Police. This decision aims to ensure equitable opportunities for youth from challenging geographical regions.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Vinai Kumar Saxena, announced the approval via his official X handle, stating that the upper age limit for eligibility has been extended to 35 years, a substantial increase from the previous limit of 28 years.

Lieutenant Governor Saxena expressed his belief that geographical constraints, such as difficult terrains, underdeveloped infrastructure, and limited access to educational resources, should not impede the career prospects of the region’s youth. He emphasized the administration’s commitment to fostering inclusivity and ensuring fair representation for all sections of society, particularly those from ALC areas, within the Ladakh Police and other government departments.

This move follows another recent administrative decision on April 7, where the Ladakh administration ordered the renewal of expired land lease deeds. This had been a long-standing demand of the local populace. Lieutenant Governor Saxena had directed the Chief Secretary of the UT to organize special camps to expedite the clearance of these pending cases and to hand over the renewed land lease deeds to the concerned individuals.

The first such camp for the renewal of land lease deeds is scheduled to be held on April 15, 2026. The administration’s proactive steps indicate a focus on addressing key concerns of the residents and promoting developmental aspirations within the Union Territory.
