Srinagar, April 13: The famed Tulip Garden in Srinagar, a major attraction during the spring season, will close its gates to the public on the evening of April 16. The closure marks the end of the annual Tulip Show for 2026, concluding the display of vibrant spring blooms.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the Directorate of Floriculture, Gardens & Parks Kashmir issued an official notice announcing the decision. The garden, which opened its doors to visitors on March 16, has hosted thousands of tourists and locals eager to witness the spectacular floral arrangements.
The recommendation to close the garden was made by the Tulip Committee, as communicated through a departmental letter dated April 13, 2025. This annual event is a significant draw for tourism in the region, showcasing a vast array of tulip varieties that transform the landscape into a riot of colours.
The Tulip Garden, officially known as Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden, is situated on the banks of Dal Lake in Srinagar. It is one of the largest tulip gardens in Asia, spanning over 30 acres and featuring more than 1.5 million bulbs comprising over 60 different varieties of tulips. The garden is meticulously maintained by the Jammu and Kashmir’s Floriculture Department, which ensures the optimal display of these seasonal flowers.
The opening of the Tulip Garden typically heralds the arrival of spring in Kashmir, attracting a significant influx of domestic and international tourists. The spectacle of millions of tulips in full bloom against the backdrop of the Zabarwan Range has become an iconic image of Kashmir’s natural beauty.
