Srinagar: Policeman Arrested by ACB for Alleged Bribery

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested a head constable in Srinagar on charges of demanding and accepting a bribe. The arrest was made following a complaint lodged by a local resident who alleged the policeman was seeking illegal gratification in connection with an official matter.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the accused, identified as Parvaiz Ahmad, was apprehended during a trap operation conducted by the ACB in the Batamaloo area of the city. He was reportedly caught red-handed while accepting ₹5,000 in cash and a cheque valued at ₹35,000.

Sources within the ACB stated that the trap was meticulously set up after a thorough verification of the complaint. The recovered bribe money and the cheque were seized on the spot in the presence of independent witnesses, officials confirmed.

Following the arrest, a case has been formally registered against the head constable under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The ACB has initiated further investigations to unravel the complete details and circumstances surrounding the alleged illegal transaction. The arrested policeman has been taken into custody, and departmental action is expected to follow.
