A Delhi Police constable has been apprehended in connection with a robbery involving over Rs 50 lakh that occurred in March near the Azad Market underpass. The accused constable, Sameer Singh, was posted in a Delhi Police battalion and is alleged to have been part of a conspiracy to carry out the heist.
The Chenab Times has learned that the incident took place on March 31, when four individuals reportedly intercepted an auto-rickshaw and made off with approximately Rs 50 lakh in cash. While several accomplices were taken into custody earlier, Singh had managed to evade capture until his recent arrest.
Authorities successfully tracked Singh through a combination of CCTV footage analysis and technical surveillance. His eventual apprehension took place in Dausa, Rajasthan, indicating a cross-state escape attempt.
Sources familiar with the investigation have indicated that Constable Sameer Singh has prior cases registered against him at various police stations. He has been described by these sources as a “habitual offender,” allegedly involved in the planning of significant robbery operations. The sources further alleged that despite facing previous arrests, Singh had continued to remain in active service within the police force.
The Delhi Police are currently continuing their investigations into the broader conspiracy surrounding the robbery. Efforts are underway to uncover the full extent of the network involved and to ascertain the destination of the stolen funds. The case highlights concerns regarding internal security and the integrity of law enforcement personnel.
