Uttar Pradesh Man Allegedly Kills Mother, Brother Over Ancestral Property Dispute in Banda

A man has been accused of fatally shooting his mother and younger brother following an escalating dispute over ancestral property in Uttar Pradesh’s Banda district on Sunday. The incident occurred in the Baberu town area, prompting a swift response from local law enforcement.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that police were alerted around noon to the alleged shooting by Rajkishore Mishra. The victims, identified as his mother Shanti, 60, and younger brother Devidin, 35, were immediately transported to a local hospital. Medical personnel pronounced both deceased upon arrival. The bodies have since been sent for post-mortem examinations as part of the ongoing investigation.

Preliminary findings suggest that the alleged perpetrator harboured resentment over his father’s prior sale of a portion of the family’s ancestral land. Tensions within the family had reportedly been simmering for some time due to this issue. The fatal shooting is understood to have stemmed directly from a confrontation on Sunday afternoon concerning the property.

The Superintendent of Police, Palash Bansal, stated that forensic evidence has been meticulously collected from the scene of the crime. To apprehend the absconding accused, the police have constituted four distinct teams. The motive behind the alleged double homicide appears to be a deep-seated conflict over inherited property, a common source of friction in many rural Indian families.

This tragic event underscores the intense pressures that disputes over land and inheritance can exert on family relationships, sometimes leading to extreme violence. The police are continuing their efforts to locate and arrest the individual suspected of committing the crime. The community in Baberu town has been left in shock by the incident, with neighbours expressing disbelief at the severity of the alleged act.

The investigation is expected to delve deeper into the family’s history and the specifics of the property dispute that may have precipitated the violence. Authorities have appealed to the public for any information that could assist in the capture of the accused. The Uttar Pradesh Police have a history of dealing with such sensitive cases, and resources are being mobilised to ensure a thorough and timely resolution.

The accused, Rajkishore Mishra, remains at large, and efforts to track his movements are a primary focus for the investigative teams. The police have not released further details regarding the specific type of firearm allegedly used in the shooting, pending the completion of forensic analysis. The implications of this crime extend beyond the immediate family, raising concerns about property rights and the means by which disputes are resolved in the region.

The investigation will also likely involve interviews with other family members and associates to reconstruct the events leading up to the killings and to establish a clearer timeline. The recovery of the weapon, if found, will be crucial in substantiating the charges against the accused. The Uttar Pradesh Police’s efficiency in handling such cases will be under scrutiny as they work to bring the perpetrator to justice and provide some measure of closure to the affected community.
