Jammu and Kashmir Police have apprehended two individuals, including a teacher, in the Kishtwar district for their alleged involvement in providing support to foreign militants operating in the region.
The Chenab Times has learned that the arrests were made following operations conducted by the police in Singhpora, Chatroo, where a militant hideout was reportedly uncovered. A case has been registered at Police Station Chatroo under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), and the Arms Act.
According to official statements, the police identified Mashkoor Ahmed, a teacher employed with the School Education Department and a resident of Beighpora, Singhpora, as a key accused. He is alleged to have directly facilitated the establishment of a hideout for the militants. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishtwar, Naresh Singh, stated that the arrest is a significant step in disrupting the logistical network supporting militant activities in the area.
Prior to the apprehension of the teacher, another individual, Maneer Ahmed, a resident of Bandeyan Naidgam, was also taken into custody for similar alleged offenses. The police have indicated that the investigation is ongoing with the aim of dismantling the entire network involved in aiding militancy.
The charges filed against the accused include provisions related to unlawful associations, aiding terrorist activities, and possessing illegal arms. The legal proceedings are expected to follow due process to ensure all perpetrators are brought to justice. The security forces have been intensifying operations in the Kishtwar region to curb the resurgence of militant activities, which have historically posed a challenge to the region’s stability. The administration has been emphasizing a multi-pronged approach, combining security operations with developmental initiatives to address the root causes of unrest.
