A wedding ceremony in Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi district devolved into violence when the bride rejected the groom, asserting he was not the individual she had been communicating with online. The ensuing dispute led to a physical altercation between the families, resulting in the groom being hospitalized.
Bride Claims Deception Over Online Identity
Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that the incident occurred on May 12 during a wedding that was arranged following an online courtship. According to police reports, the groom, identified as Devendra Singh Parimar, aged 23, stated he met the bride through Instagram. Their communication progressed to phone calls, culminating in a decision to marry.
The bride’s family had reportedly made arrangements for guests at a local hotel before the wedding procession arrived at the bride’s residence for the ceremony. However, upon seeing the groom, the bride, who is a lawyer by profession, raised objections. She alleged that the man presented as the groom was not the person she had been conversing with, and that the individual she knew had introduced himself as Rahul.
Altercation Leads to Hospitalization and Detentions
Following the bride’s objection, members of her family allegedly assaulted the groom, Devendra Singh Parimar, and several other wedding guests. The groom sustained injuries in the conflict and was subsequently admitted to a hospital for medical treatment. Authorities were called to the scene to manage the situation.
Circle Officer (Shahabad) Alok Raj Narayan confirmed that the police have detained nine individuals in connection with the incident for questioning. A thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the dispute and the alleged assault is currently underway. Police are working to ascertain the details of the online interactions and the identities of the parties involved to understand the basis of the bride’s claim.
The incident highlights the complexities that can arise in relationships initiated online and the potential for misunderstandings or deception. As investigations continue, further details are expected to emerge regarding the identities and claims of both the bride and the groom. The traditional sanctity of the wedding ceremony was disrupted by this unexpected turn of events, prompting a police inquiry.
