Five individuals were killed and five others sustained serious injuries after a sand-laden truck ran them over near Bisanda town in Uttar Pradesh’s Banda district on Wednesday. The incident unfolded as the truck driver, attempting to flee a previous accident, lost control and struck a group of people.
Chain of Fatalities Ensues After Initial Hit-and-Run
Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that the tragic sequence of events began around 4:45 PM near the road connecting Lauli-Shiv village. The truck first struck and fatally injured Rameshwar, a 61-year-old retired teacher from Ghuri village.
Following the initial collision, local residents mobilized on motorcycles to pursue the fleeing truck. In a state of panic, the driver accelerated towards Bisanda town. Near Nathoo Talab on the Oran road, the truck collided with an oncoming e-rickshaw, leading to the vehicle overturning.
E-rickshaw Passengers Among Victims
Four passengers in the e-rickshaw were killed instantly. The deceased were identified as Mamta, 48, Rakesh, 45, Shahbaz, 12, and Naveen, 40, all residents of Kurrahi village. The collision also resulted in serious injuries to five other occupants of the e-rickshaw, who were subsequently transported to a hospital for medical attention.
The driver of the truck managed to escape the scene of the accident. Authorities have launched a manhunt to apprehend the individual. Investigations are ongoing, and the bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examinations as per standard procedure.
The incident has raised concerns about road safety in the region, particularly regarding the operation of heavy vehicles and the potential for reckless driving. Police are expected to provide further updates as the investigation progresses and the driver is apprehended.
