Four tourists from Punjab sustained injuries on Friday when their vehicle skidded off the road and plunged approximately 100 feet into the Haloon river in Doda district. The incident occurred on the Bhaderwah-Pathankot interstate highway, a significant road connecting the region to Punjab.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the accident happened when the tourists were travelling in a Kia Sonet. The vehicle veered off the road about 11 kilometres from Bhaderwah town, with police indicating that the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle before it fell into the river.
Following the accident, eyewitnesses, including a labourer working with the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), alerted authorities. BRO personnel and an ambulance from a nearby camp were promptly dispatched to the scene. Rescuers were able to extract all four passengers from the vehicle, which had become lodged in the fast-flowing waters of the Haloon River.
The injured tourists were subsequently transported to the Sub-District Hospital (SDH) in Bhaderwah for immediate medical attention. The Block Medical Officer (BMO) of Bhaderwah, Dr. Versha Sharma, stated that all four individuals are receiving treatment and are reported to be out of danger and responding well to medical care.
The injured individuals have been identified as Ashwani Kumar, 48, son of Govinder Sharma; Navneet Sharma, 46, son of Jagdish Chander; Ajay Kumar, 47, son of Rajinder Singh; and Amarjeet Singh, 56, son of Sai Das. All are residents of Pathankot, Punjab. Police have registered the incident and have initiated further investigations into the cause of the accident.
The Bhaderwah-Pathankot highway is a crucial route that passes through several popular tourist spots, including Thanthera, Guldanda, and Chattergalla, making it a busy thoroughfare for both local movement and visitors exploring the scenic beauty of the region.
