Jammu and Kashmir: Cement Factory Accident Claims One Life in Khonmoh

SRINAGAR: A worker who was critically injured in an accident at a cement factory in the Khonmoh area on the outskirts of Srinagar has died. The deceased, identified as Fayaz Ahmad Bhat, 40, had been undergoing treatment at Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) Hospital for three days following the incident on June 18. His funeral is scheduled to take place at his ancestral graveyard in Bandipora district.

Worker Succumbs to Injuries After Fall

Information was available with The Chenab Times that Bhat sustained severe head injuries during the accident at the Khyber Cement plant. While initial reports suggested burn injuries for all affected workers, officials clarified that Bhat’s injuries were primarily due to a fall from a height. He was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of SMHS Hospital and succumbed to his injuries early on Sunday morning despite sustained medical intervention.

Bhat was one of seven workers injured when a fire incident occurred within the plant premises while they were on duty. The injured were promptly transported to the hospital for medical attention. The other six workers are currently receiving treatment and are reported to be in stable condition.

Authorities Launch Inquiry into Factory Accident

In response to the incident, authorities have initiated a formal inquiry to thoroughly investigate the circumstances that led to the accident at the Khonmoh cement factory. The Jammu and Kashmir Police have registered the incident and commenced further investigations to ascertain the exact cause and any potential negligence.
