THATHRI — A major tragedy was narrowly averted early this morning when a local man accidentally slipped and fell into the fast-flowing waters of the Chenab River in Thathri. Thanks to the prompt action of nearby locals, the man was successfully rescued and is currently recovering.
The individual, identified as Mohammad Amin, a resident of Bahdad, was walking near the riverbank when he lost his footing and plunged into the water. Onlookers rushed to the scene immediately, managing to pull him from the treacherous waters before the strong current could carry him away. Amin was quickly shifted to CHC Thathri for immediate care and has been declared out of danger.
The near-fatal incident has once again highlighted the severe risks posed by rising water levels in the region. According to a report by The Chenab Times, Amin’s survival is being called a stroke of incredible luck. The rescue comes on the heels of a grim reminder of the river’s power; just days prior, another individual tragically lost their life in a similar drowning incident.
Local authorities and media outlets have been repeatedly issuing strict advisories, urging residents to maintain a safe distance from the Chenab River and its surrounding tributaries. The volume and speed of the water have increased significantly in recent weeks.
“While the river may look beautiful, it is incredibly dangerous,” noted the reporter from The Chenab Times.
Officials continue to warn that unpredictable weather, sudden heavy downpours, or cloudbursts upstream can trigger sudden flash floods, making the riverbanks highly volatile. Approaching the water despite ongoing advisories is a dangerous gamble.
