Two long-awaited Schools of Eminence (SOEs) in Ludhiana are slated for inauguration on Sunday, with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains set to officially open the upgraded educational facilities. This event follows several delays and postponements that had impacted the project’s timeline.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the Chief Minister will inaugurate the newly constructed School of Eminence located in Kidwai Nagar. Additionally, the School of Eminence at Government Senior Secondary School, Millerganj-Dholewal, will be dedicated to students through a virtual inauguration during the same programme.
The Kidwai Nagar campus was originally scheduled to commence operations on May 28. However, the inauguration event was subsequently postponed due to the Chief Minister’s prior commitments. The project had already encountered multiple missed deadlines. Earlier, the then Deputy Commissioner had projected March 2025 as the target completion date for the school’s operationalization. Subsequently, Ludhiana Central MLA Ashok Parashar Pappi had announced that the inauguration would take place within a three-month period.
Despite the physical infrastructure of the new building being completed, students had continued attending classes at the Government Senior Secondary School, Division Number III. The new campus remained inaccessible and awaiting its formal inauguration.
The newly constructed Kidwai Nagar School of Eminence boasts 40 classrooms and is equipped with modern amenities. These facilities include smart classrooms and advanced educational resources, developed as part of the Punjab Government’s broader School of Eminence initiative. The project aims to enhance the quality of government education across the state.
In parallel, the Millerganj-Dholewal campus has undergone significant upgrades. It now features digital classrooms outfitted with projectors and screens. The campus also benefits from an RO-based drinking water system, renovated classrooms, and generally improved infrastructure, ensuring a conducive learning environment.
Both institutions represent key components of the Punjab Government’s flagship programme. This initiative is dedicated to strengthening the public education system by providing state-of-the-art classrooms, well-equipped science and computer laboratories, comprehensive CCTV surveillance for safety, robust sports infrastructure, and a range of other student-centric facilities designed to foster holistic development.
Extensive preparations for the Chief Minister’s visit were finalized on Saturday. At the Kidwai Nagar campus, teachers and administrative officials diligently completed the final arrangements. Concurrently, similar preparations were undertaken at the Millerganj-Dholewal school in anticipation of the virtual inauguration ceremony.
According to officials present, six teachers have been assigned specific duties at the Kidwai Nagar campus. Their responsibilities include overseeing the readiness of classrooms and ensuring all digital equipment is functional. At the Millerganj-Dholewal campus, five principals and headmasters have been allocated specific roles to manage the virtual proceedings.
Following the formal inauguration ceremonies, Chief Minister Mann and Education Minister Bains are expected to conduct a thorough inspection of the Kidwai Nagar School of Eminence. They are also scheduled to engage with students and parents, and to review the various facilities that have been developed as part of the state’s ongoing education reforms.
In addition to the school inaugurations, the Chief Minister and Mr. Bains are scheduled to attend a meeting of Village Defence Committees. This meeting will take place at Kings Villa on Ferozepur Road and is being held to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the state’s initiative against drug abuse. The dignitaries are expected to depart from Ludhiana later in the afternoon after completing their engagements.
