SRINAGAR: Intense rainfall on Monday triggered flash floods in several villages of Shopian district in Jammu and Kashmir, leading to inundation of homes and prompting the deployment of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams for rescue operations.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the sudden downpour caused rivers and streams to overflow, with floodwaters entering residential areas in Badrhama village. While several houses were submerged and property damaged, officials reported no loss of life or injuries.
Eyewitness accounts described a rapid rise in water levels, forcing multiple families to evacuate their homes and seek safety elsewhere. The local administration and emergency services were quickly on the ground in Badrhama to assess the situation and initiate relief efforts.
The SDRF reported significant waterlogging also in the Zawoora area. Personnel from the SDRF were actively engaged in rescue operations in Zawoora and additional teams were dispatched to Badrhama to provide assistance and conduct further assessments. Authorities stated that the situation is under close observation.
The extent of the damage caused by the flash floods is still being evaluated. The administration is monitoring the weather patterns and ensuring that necessary measures are in place to respond to any further developments.
