The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a significant 64-kilometre Namo Bharat train corridor, designed to connect Noida International Airport in Jewar with Gurugram and Faridabad, has received approval from a committee chaired by the Meerut Divisional Commissioner. This development marks a crucial step towards enhancing public transportation infrastructure in the National Capital Region (NCR).
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the approved report will now be submitted to the Uttar Pradesh government for its endorsement before being forwarded to the Central government for final sanction. The ambitious project is projected to cost approximately ₹19,390 crore. Of the total route, an extensive 51 kilometres will traverse through Haryana, while the remaining 13 kilometres will be within Uttar Pradesh. The corridor is planned to feature seven Namo Bharat stations and an additional 15 metro stations along its path.
Route Alignment and Interconnectivity
The corridor’s alignment within Haryana is set to commence from Surajpur and proceed through Noida Sector 168/142. It will then extend to Faridabad, encompassing areas such as Sector 87/88 and Bata Chowk, before entering Gurugram via Gwal Pahari. The Haryana leg will conclude at IFFCO Chowk, passing through Gurugram’s Sector 58/61. Concurrently, the Uttar Pradesh segment will begin at Siddharth Vihar in Ghaziabad, traversing through Surajpur, Greater Noida, and Dankaur, ultimately connecting directly to Noida International Airport. Surajpur, located in Greater Noida, is strategically identified as the primary interchange hub for the network, facilitating connections between the Ghaziabad-Noida Airport route and the Gurugram-Faridabad route.
Circular Connectivity for NCR
Officials have described the envisioned network’s design as analogous to a city’s ring road, but tailored for rail connectivity. Instead of easing vehicular traffic, the Namo Bharat network aims to provide a seamless circular rail link connecting Ghaziabad, Noida, Faridabad, and Gurugram. This integrated system is expected to substantially alleviate the persistent traffic congestion within the NCR upon its operationalization. The corridor’s design intends to foster greater connectivity and reduce travel times between key urban centres and the upcoming international airport.
Haryana’s Significant Stake
For the districts of Gurugram and Faridabad, the 51-kilometre stretch within Haryana represents nearly 80 percent of the total route, positioning the state as the principal beneficiary of this infrastructure project. The planned alignment, passing through Gwal Pahari, Sector 58/61, and IFFCO Chowk, promises to offer the densely populated residential and commercial areas of South Haryana a direct, high-speed link to Jewar Airport. This development is anticipated to complement ongoing connectivity initiatives in the region, including the Gurugram-IGI Airport metro line and various road and underpass expansion projects undertaken by the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA). Real estate developers in Gurugram have consistently highlighted airport connectivity as a critical factor driving demand along corridors such as the Dwarka Expressway and Golf Course Extension. The introduction of this rail link is expected to further bolster this trend once it becomes operational.
Economic and Employment Implications
Beyond enhancing convenience for commuters, the establishment of this corridor is projected to generate new opportunities for trade and employment. Improved accessibility to industrial hubs and Noida International Airport is likely to benefit the youth in Ghaziabad, Noida, and Faridabad significantly. Authorities have indicated that the enhanced connectivity could serve as a catalyst for accelerated business activity and economic growth along the entire corridor. The project is seen as a key enabler for regional economic integration and development, fostering greater synergy between different parts of the NCR.
Next Steps in Project Implementation
Having secured the clearance from the divisional-level committee, the Detailed Project Report now awaits endorsement from the Uttar Pradesh government. Following this, it will be presented to the Central government for its final approval. This subsequent approval from the central authorities will be instrumental in determining the project’s implementation timeline and the commencement of its construction phase. The project signifies a coordinated effort between state and central governments to bolster infrastructure in one of India’s most economically vibrant regions.
