Delhi’s Naini Lake to Undergo Rs 9.73 Crore Rejuvenation Project

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has launched a significant rejuvenation and beautification initiative for Naini Lake, located in the Model Town area. The project, valued at Rs 9.73 crore, aims to enhance both the environmental quality and recreational appeal of the popular urban water body.

Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that the project is being implemented under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana scheme. The inauguration ceremony, held on Sunday, was attended by Kapil Mishra, a cabinet minister, Ashok Goyal, the local MLA, Vikesh Sethi, the area councillor, and Mohit Bansal, the Deputy Commissioner.

A crucial aspect of the redevelopment plan involves the supply of treated sewage water. This water will be sourced from the Coronation Pillar sewage treatment plant (STP) and channeled to Naini Lake. The excess treated wastewater from the lake will subsequently be utilized for irrigating municipal parks in the vicinity, promoting the efficient reuse of treated water resources.

The comprehensive project encompasses a range of aesthetic and infrastructural improvements. These include the installation of decorative lighting systems, extensive horticultural development, and the remodelling of the peripheral reinforced concrete cement (RCC) drain surrounding the lake. Further enhancements will feature the addition of two musical fountains, alongside the repair of the existing boundary grill and enclosure of the lake.

The project site falls within Ward Number 68 of the Keshav Puram Zone. Authorities have set a target completion date for the extensive redevelopment work, with the project slated for conclusion by July 2027. The initiative is expected to significantly improve the ecological health and public amenity value of Naini Lake for residents of the capital.
